Why isn't there a checkout button?
Paid plans open soon. Until then nobody is charged: you can start a free trial now, with no card. While paid plans are not open yet, a free trial does not run out by time. Once they open, it runs until 7 days after they open or 14 days after you signed up, whichever is later. Usage limits still apply: the trial's token budget, a daily limit, and at busy times a pause on trial indexing until the next UTC day. We'll email every trial user the day checkout opens. What currency are prices in?
US dollars. No VAT is added: the seller is a small business exempt from charging VAT. See refunds & cancellations and the terms.
Do I need a paid plan to use Locus at all?
No. The core engine (locus index, locus serve) runs entirely on your own machine, free, with on-device embeddings (LOCUS_EMBEDDER=local) — no account or subscription required. Paid tiers are for the hosted extras: the managed embeddings relay (no Voyage key of your own needed) and, later, additional connected sources. On managed plans, chunk text passes through Locus's relay to Voyage AI to be embedded. We don't store it; we keep only usage counts.
The free local mode is optimized for English; managed mode uses a multilingual model. We have not yet measured search quality in other languages.
What counts as a computer?
Each computer you index with Locus uses one key. On every plan you can connect as many AI apps on that computer as you like. Reaching it from another device, such as your phone or a web AI app, has not been confirmed working end to end yet.
What happens if I use up my plan?
Each plan includes a monthly allowance for embedding your documents; search keeps working after it is used. The dashboard shows exactly where you stand.
Is my AI assistant supported?
We have tested Locus with cited answers in Claude Desktop, Claude Code and Cursor. Claude.ai on the web is not supported yet (it needs OAuth sign-in, which Locus does not support yet), and we have not tested ChatGPT. The connection guide has setup steps for other MCP clients, each labelled with how far we have tested it: Tested, Connects or Documented. Connects and Documented mean not yet verified.
